Prairie Futures Nursing Open House Re-Scheduled
The Prairie Futures informational open house, which had been scheduled for April but was canceled due to a spring snow storm, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, May 21 in Chamberlain, SD 11:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m at the Sanford Hospital Private Dining Room and in Winner, SD from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. at the Winner Regional Hospital Chapel. Corey Hamilton Kilgore, Executive Director of the MHCH (Matson, Halverson, Christianson, Hamilton) Foundation invites anyone who has interest in becoming a Register Nurse to attend the open house and learn more about the Prairie Futures Nursing Program. “Prairie Futures is a collaboration between the University of South Dakota, Sanford Chamberlain, Winner Regional Hospital, Lower Brule Community College and the MHCH Foundation to provide access to nursing education for non-traditional students in the central rural areas of South Dakota,” said Kilgore. The pre-nursing general education classes may be completed via distance technology through the University of South Dakota and students may also take general courses at Lower Brule Community College in Lower Brule, SD. Prairie Futures students are provided with transportation and lodging support as needed, tutoring, coaching, and laptops are available while students are registered in classes. Stipends are available at the end of the fall and spring semesters for students who meet GPA requirements. If you are interested in becoming a nurse, and would like to practice in rural South Dakota, then make plans to attend the Prairie Futures Open House and learn more about this program.
