Presho prepares to start $5.1 million improvement project
As a $5.2 million infrastructure improvement project in Presho nears a start date, some business owners and residents are concerned about how the project will affect their property. On March 4, 2019, the Presho City Council approved the low bid of approximately $5.1 million from Northern Plains, LLC of Winner, SD. The project will be funded with the following monies: $750,000 (CDBG Grant); $400,000 (SD DOT Community Access Grant); $2,648,000 (DENR SRF Loan -Wastewater/Storm Water); $1,400.000 (DENR SRF Loan Principle Forgiveness - Wastewater/Storm Water); $250,000 (Local Costs); for a total funding package of $5,448,000. According to Project Engineer Jay Koch of Schmucker, Paul, Nohr and Associates (SPN) based on the funding and the low bid there could be a $100,000 surplus that could fund additional work. Koch stated the project will start as soon as possible in May, “no later than June 1st.” The project, which is expected to take two years to complete has a deadline of September 5, 2020.
